Heritage

Where does Jivaro come from?2018-03-22T07:23:41+00:00

The Jivaro® brand is named after the Jivaro (or Jivaroan) people, colourful indigenous communities who inhabit the East of Ecuador and the North of Peru. For over 2,000 years, guayusa forms a vital part of the Jivaro’s rich cultural heritage.

We are committed to sharing Jivaro’s ancient heritage with the global community.

Where does guayusa grow?2018-03-22T07:23:51+00:00

Jivaro®‘s Guayusa is grown almost exclusively in the upper Amazon region of Ecuador, where the high Andean mountains meet the Amazon rainforest. This stunning region is one of the most biodiverse in the World.

Is guayusa the same as yerba maté?2018-03-22T07:23:33+00:00

No. guayusa (Ilex Guayusa) is the Amazonian cousin of yerba maté (Ilex Paraguariensis), which originates from the Atlantic rainforest. But both are caffeinated rainforest holly trees.

How does a guayusa super-leaf look like?2018-03-22T07:22:07+00:00

So this is how modest a guayusa leaf with superpowers looks like.

Delivery & Pricing

Why does Jivaro® cost more than teas found in supermarkets?2018-03-22T07:22:18+00:00

Unlike other teas, Jivaro® Herbal Tea is made from the rare and exclusive super-leaf guayusa. Jivaro®’s guayusa is grown on a small-scale by indigenous family farmers in harmony with the Amazon rainforest, rather than by huge traditional ecologically damaging plantations. We pay our farmers a fair price. This is why the price of Jivaro® Herbal Tea is higher than the average tea you will find in supermarkets.

But with the unique qualities of Jivaro®you totally get what you pay for.

Does Jivaro® also deliver in other countries than The Netherlands?2019-01-02T15:32:48+00:00

Yes, we do. We deliver our delicious Jivaro® Tea not only all over Europe, but also in most other non-European countries. The delivery costs hereof vary per order amount and country, but generally amount to €3.45 for 1 piece and €5.50 for 2 or 3 pieces. Please find the exact delivery costs at checkout or contact us directly.

Why do I need to wait 4 – 8 days before receiving my online ordered Jivaro® product?2018-03-22T07:22:42+00:00

Jivaro®‘s NL delivery costs, if any, are very low in comparison to most products bought online. This is important to us, our users have to be able to enjoy Jivaro® Tea without (too much) extra charges. This method’s downside: deliveries are only on Tuesday and Friday and, including the postal processing time, it can take up to 8 days to receive your order.

Do I need to be at home when my Jivaro® order is delivered?2018-03-22T07:23:02+00:00

No. We send you your Jivaro® products in special packaging, which will be delivered via your mailbox. Only in case that the delivery address has a mailbox, smaller than the Dutch legal size mailbox, personal reception of Jivaro® Tea would be required.

Certifications

Is Jivaro® Herbal Tea fair trade certified?2018-03-22T07:23:13+00:00

No. We believe that we do pay a fair price for our guayusa, which is in line with other relevant players that do have foreign fair trade certifications. But because of a lack of sustainable organization at the Level of our Jivaro® suppliers they are not yet able to obtain fair trade certifications.

Is Jivaro® Herbal Tea organic / BIO-certified?2018-03-22T07:23:24+00:00

No. Due to our commitment to increase the standard of living of the indigenous farmers and their communities, we buy our guayusa directly from the small-scale farmers. Although they grow Jivaro®’s guayusa naturally, and thus in line with BIO/organic cultivation practices, our suppliers do not possess certifications. It requires significant knowhow, investments and professionalism to obtain and produce under organic certifications. Our small-scale suppliers are not there yet
